Speaking of how their duet and romance came about JP says: “Julia and I connected because she shared another song of mine called 25 in Barcelona on her Insta story. We had never met. I was literally having a conversation about how I thought she was the most influential songwriter of our generation and I got a notification that she had tagged me in a story.
“It was a strange, mystical moment. We started talking, not too long after that we got in the studio and the day we met was the day we wrote If The World Was Ending.”
The music video, directed by Jason Lester, was released on October 17, 2019. After the Emergency Alert System warns of a “significant environmental event” hitting the United States, the video cuts to two lovers – JP Saxe and Julia – reviewing their last text conversation. As the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration instructs citizens to seek refuge in their nearest fallout shelter, JP reads how Julia needed some “space”. Suddenly, with extinction looming, the two reevaluate their priorities and are forced to decide just how they want to spend their last few hours on Earth.
As a songwriter, Michaels has written songs for artists including Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Shawn Mendes, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Hailee Steinfeld, and Gwen Stefani. She has earned two Billboard Hot 100 number one songs with Bieber’s “Sorry” and Gomez’s “Lose You to Love Me”.

If The World Was Ending – JP Saxe Featuring Julia Michaels
[Verse 1: JP Saxe]
I was distracted and in traffic
I didn’t feel it when the earthquake happened
But it really got me thinkin’, were you out drinkin’?
Were you in the living room, chillin’, watchin’ television?
It’s been a year now, think I’ve figured out how
How to let you go and let communication die out
[Pre-Chorus: JP Saxe]
I know, you know, we know you weren’t
Down for forever and it’s fine
I know, you know, we know we weren’t
Meant for each other and it’s fine
[Chorus: JP Saxe]
But if the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
You’d come over and you’d stay the night
Would you love me for the hell of it?
All our fears would be irrelevant
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
The sky’d be falling and I’d hold you tight
And there wouldn’t be a reason why
We would even have to say goodbye
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right? Right?
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right? Right?
[Verse 2: Julia Michaels]
I tried to imagine your reaction
It didn’t scare me when the earthquake happened
But it really got me thinkin’, the night we went drinkin’
Stumbled in the house and didn’t make it past the kitchen
Ah, it’s been a year now, think I’ve figured out how
How to think about you without it rippin’ my heart out
[Pre-Chorus: JP Saxe & Julia Michaels]
And I know, you know, we know you weren’t
Down for forever and it’s fine
I know, you know, we know we weren’t
Meant for each other and it’s fine
[Chorus: JP Saxe & Julia Michaels]
But if the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
You’d come over and you’d stay the night
Would you love me for the hell of it?
All our fears would be irrelevant
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
Sky’d be falling while I hold you tight
No, there wouldn’t be a reason why
We would even have to say goodbye
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
You’d come over, right?
You’d come over, you’d come over, you’d come over, right?
[Pre-Chorus: JP Saxe]
I know, you know, we know you weren’t
Down for forever and it’s fine
I know, you know, we know we weren’t
Meant for each other and it’s fine
[Chorus: JP Saxe & Julia Michaels]
But if the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
You’d come over and you’d stay the night
Would you love me for the hell of it?
All our fears would be irrelevant
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
The sky’d be falling while I hold you tight
No, there wouldn’t be a reason why
We would even have to say goodbye
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
You’d come over, you’d come over, you’d come over, right?
[Outro: JP Saxe & Julia Michaels]
Hmm
If the world was ending, you’d come over, right?
