Although she specializes in sparkling and effervescent pop, there is a sincerity in Lizzo’s music that is tremendously moving. When she sings “I know I can do all things”, in her 2016 empowerment anthem, Coconut Oil, she wants young girls to listen to her music, which does not fit the narrow parameters of the thin white woman set by the industry music, to believe that they can also she the protagonists of the VMA.

The “Juice” star certainly had a lot to celebrate. As she mentioned, her new film Hustlers—which also stars Jennifer LopezConstance WuLili ReinhartKeke Palmer and Cardi B—has been dominating the box office. On Friday, The Hollywood Reporter claimed the movie had already raked in $33.2 million from 3,250 theaters in the U.S.

The first time I heard one of Lizzo’s songs, I was watching the Netflix romantic comedy “Someone Great.” The main character, fresh from a breakup the night before, danced around the kitchen proclaiming, “You’re ‘posed to hold me down, but you’re holding me back / And that’s the sound of me not calling you back.”

In a review for NPR, Hanif Abdurraqib praised the song’s inspirational and motivational qualities, saying “[the song is] the anthem of both the night itself and of life in preparation for it: the saint that comes to you in the mirror when the lighting is bad, or the hair won’t move the way you want it to, or when you’ve tried on all of the outfits and none of them seem right.” Abdurraqib also called it “the rare song that can play at any point in a night out and resonate in each.”

In 2019 Billboard included “Good as Hell” on their list of the Top 10 Lizzo songs, saying “the song’s message of self-love mixed with a melody that will worm its way inside your head make this track an absolute stunner.”

Good As Hell – Lizzo

[Chorus]
I do my hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
Hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)

[Verse 1]
Woo, child, tired of the bullshit
Go on, dust your shoulders off, keep it moving
Yes, Lord, tryna get some new shit
In there, swimwear, going-to-the-pool shit
Come now, come dry your eyes
You know you a star, you can touch the sky
I know that it’s hard but you have to try
If you need advice, let me simplify

[Pre-Chorus]
If he don’t love you anymore
Just walk your fine ass out the door

[Chorus]
I do my hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
Hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
(Feeling good as hell)
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)

Lizzo is feeling “Good as Hell” for gaining her first-ever No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with “Truth Hurts.” And now “Good as Hell” joined the chart for the first time this week, starting at No. 52 with the potential to “keep it moving.”

Lizzo is at the center of controversy after claiming a Postmates employee stole her meal and posting a screenshot of her face to Twitter.

A few months ago, in the middle of an evening blog shift, I decided to splurge on my favorite pasta dish from an Italian restaurant in my neighborhood. I ordered it on Seamless (I know, I know) and was excited to eat it. But unbeknownst to me, my downstairs buzzer was broken, and though the delivery person attempted to call me, my phone was on Do Not Disturb in another room.

[Verse 2]
Woo, girl, need to kick off your shoes
Got to take a deep breath, time to focus on you
All the big fights, long nights that you been through
I got a bottle of tequila I been saving for you
Boss up and change your life
You can have it all, no sacrifice
I know he did you wrong, we can make it right
So go and let it all hang out tonight

[Pre-Chorus]
‘Cause he don’t love you anymore
So walk your fine ass out the door

[Chorus]
And do your hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
Hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
Hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
Hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)

[Pre-Chorus]
Mm, yeah, alright
Listen, if he don’t love you anymore
Then walk your fine ass out the door

[Chorus]
And do your hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
Hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
Hair toss, check my nails
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
(Feeling good as hell)
Baby, how you feelin’? (Feelin’ good as hell)
