In Gold Rush, he finds Swift writing from the point of view of a fan-girl in love who passes out, distrustful that she likes someone everyone else wants. Swift is a songwriter of all ages. The Evermore album hits No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and all 15 songs featured on the Standard Edition hit the Hot 100, Swift’s plethora of new tracks also appear on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.

Taylor Swift Charts More Than 20 Tracks On The Rock Songs Ranking Simultaneously

As her album Evermore arrives at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and the 15 songs featured on the standard edition find their way to the Hot 100, Swift’s slew of new tracks also appear on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, Billboard ‘s ranking of the most-consumed tunes that fall under those genre labels every week.

In Evermore. Aaron Dessner, the songwriter and multi-instrumentalist for the band The National, led most of the arrangements again. Pop producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff receives only one production credit, to the detriment of the album.
Antonoff’s hymn “Gold Rush” throbs with the identifiable pettiness of resenting someone for being beautiful; Swift’s voice goes from sarcasm to desire. Dessner’s approach to Evermore relies on haunting-sounding instrumental loops that move in undramatic ways unless a songwriter or bandmate steps in to cause some productive problem.
At Evermore, Swift seems to let Dessner do more of his thing.

Taylor Swift Could Use an Editor

Evermore, the singer’s second surprise folkie album of the year, sees the cringes-to-chills ratio move in the wrong direction. Taylor Swift’s new album, Evermore, is shaky from its first verse. “Willow” opens with a gently plucked guitar riff creating a seesawing sensation, and Swift compares herself to water and her lover to a boat.

Gold Rush – Taylor Swift

[Intro]
Gleaming, twinkling
Eyes like sinking ships on waters
So inviting, I almost jump in

[Chorus]
But I don’t like a gold rush, gold rush
I don’t like anticipatin’ my face in a red flush
I don’t like that anyone would die to feel your touch
Everybody wants you
Everybody wonders what it would be like to love you
Walk past, quick brush
I don’t like slow motion, double vision in rose blush
I don’t like that falling feels like flying ’til the bone crush
Everybody wants you
But I don’t like a gold rush

[Verse 1]
What must it be like to grow up that beautiful?
With your hair falling into place like dominoes
I see me padding across your wooden floors
With my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door

[Refrain]
At dinner parties, I call you out on your contrarian shit
And the coastal town we wandered ’round had never seen a love as pure as it
And then it fades into the gray of my day-old tea
‘Cause it could never be

[Chorus]
‘Cause I don’t like a gold rush, gold rush
I don’t like anticipatin’ my face in a red flush
I don’t like that anyone would die to feel your touch
Everybody wants you
Everybody wonders what it would be like to love you
Walk past, quick brush
I don’t like slow motion, double vision in rose blush
I don’t like that falling feels like flying ’til the bone crush
Everybody wants you
But I don’t like a gold rush

[Verse 2]
What must it be like to grow up that beautiful?
With your hair falling into place like dominoes
My mind turns your life into folklore
I can’t dare to dream about you anymore

[Refrain]
At dinner parties I won’t call you out on your contrarian shit
And the coastal town we never found will never see a love as pure as it
‘Cause it fades into the gray of my day-old tea
‘Cause it will never be

[Outro]
Gleaming, twinkling
Eyes like sinking ships on waters
So inviting, I almost jump in
