Quiet until Fine Line. Harry processes their breakup on three songs specifically: “Cherry,” “Falling,” and “To Be So Lonely,” although the whole album has hints of Camille. Here’s what Harry has to say about the end of his relationship with Camille Rowe.

In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Styles revealed that he wrote the song in about 20 minutes while reflecting on a time he felt “the lowest I’ve ever felt in my life.” That said, Styles added that the song represented a major breakthrough of self-reflection. “The chorus says, ‘What am I now? Am I someone I don’t want around?’ I had started to feel myself becoming someone I didn’t want to be,” he said, “and that was really hard.”

Some fans have guessed the song could possibly be about Styles’ ex-girlfriend, Camille Rowe, the French-American model and Victoria’s Secret angel he reportedly dated from summer 2017 to July 2018, but a request for comment from Styles on that rumor made by Elite Daily was not returned at the time of publish.

The former One Direction star suggests that he cheated on his ex in the opening lines of Falling – which immediately follows Cherry, a song which features Camille speaking French.

The song eventually bursts into a triumphant but extra-melancholy horn riff, reminiscent of this earthy and towering 2011 BI jam, that throws off the time signature and pulls various angelic voices, Harry’s and others’, into its mighty vortex, like an emotional whirlpool, like a gargantuan stylistic blender. It’s a fearsome battle royale between modern boldface pop and what a noted Styles ex and fellow superstar once memorably described as “an indie record that’s much cooler than mine.”e

Falling – Harry Styles

[Verse 1]
I’m in my bed
And you’re not here
And there’s no one to blame but the drink and my wandering hands
Forget what I said
It’s not what I meant
And I can’t take it back, I can’t unpack the baggage you left

[Chorus]
What am I now? What am I now?
What if I’m someone I don’t want around?
I’m falling again, I’m falling again, I’m fallin’
What if I’m down? What if I’m out?
What if I’m someone you won’t talk about?
I’m falling again, I’m falling again, I’m fallin’

[Verse 2]
You said you care, and you missed me too
And I’m well aware I write too many songs about you
And the coffee’s out at the Beachwood Cafe
And it kills me ’cause I know we’ve ran out of things we can say

[Bridge]
And I get the feeling that you’ll never need me again

[Chorus]
What am I now? What am I now?
What if you’re someone I just want around?
I’m falling again, I’m falling again, I’m fallin’
What if I’m down? What if I’m out?
What if I’m someone you won’t talk about?
I’m falling again, I’m falling again, I’m fallin’
