Blanco, 30, has co-written and/or co-produced some of the biggest pop hits of the past decade, including such Hot 100 No. 1s as Kesha’s “TiK ToK” and “We R Who We R”; Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” featuring Snoop Dogg, and “Teenage Dream”; Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger,” featuring Christina Aguilera; Rihanna’s “Diamonds”; and Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” (all of which he both co-wrote and co-produced).

“Eastside” is built around the hazy pluck of a guitar. Khalid and Halsey trade verses about how young love morphs into the malaise of adulthood. …..
Blanco has been busy with a variety of projects this year, notably collaborating on several of Kanye West’s Wyoming albums, including the rapper’s solo record, ye, his Kid Cudi collaboration Kids See Ghosts and Nas’ Nasir. He’s also worked with Cardi B, Tory Lane, Juice WRLD and Keith Urban.

“I have decided to release some songs as Benny Blanco. Don’t worry I won’t be singing on them with my shitty nasally Jewish voice. I got all my friends to sing em. Hope u like them,” the hitmaker captioned the teaser on Instagram. Blanco suggests his first tune is titled “Eastside” and is expected to be released on Friday.

“Don’t worry I wont be singing on them with my shitty nasally jewish voice… I got all my friends to sing em,” the 30-year-old continued. It would appear that those friends include Halsey and Khalid, both of whom are rumored to feature on his debut single (apparently called “Eastside”). They were tagged on Benny’s Instagram post along with Ed Sheeran, who is believed to have co-written the song. “Hope u like them… and if u don’t I don’t care cuz I do.” Given that lineup, expect a smash. See his announcement below.

For the most part, “Eastside” is a bop. The best part of the song comes at the hands of Khalid. His voice is simply amazing and incredibly distinct from many of his contemporaries. He dominates the first part of the song, which is definitely the right choice, engaging the listeners from the get-go. The production by Benny Blanco, who co-produces with watt and Cashmere Cat is characteristic of modern-pop, with elements of dance and electronica.

[Intro: Khalid]
Uh
Yeah, yeah

[Verse 1: Khalid]
When I was young, I fell in love
We used to hold hands, man, that was enough (yeah)
Then we grew up, started to touch
Used to kiss underneath the light on the back of the bus (yeah)
Oh no, your daddy didn’t like me much
And he didn’t believe me when I said you were the one
Oh, every day she found a way out of the window to sneak out late

[Pre-Chorus: Khalid]
She used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don’t set
And every day you know that we ride
Through the backstreets of a blue Corvette
Baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
We can go anywhere we want
Drive down to the coast, jump in the seat
Just take my hand and come with me

[Chorus: Khalid]
We can do anything if we put our minds to it
Take your whole life then you put a line through it
My love is yours if you’re willing to take it
Give me your heart ’cause I ain’t gonna break it
So come away, starting today
Start a new life, together in a different place
We know that love is how all these ideas came to be
So baby, run away with me

[Verse 2: Halsey]
Seventeen and we got a dream to have a family
A house and everything in between
And then, oh, suddenly we turned twenty-three
Now we got pressure for taking our life more seriously
We got our dead-end jobs and got bills to pay
Half our friends are now our enemies
Now I-, I’m thinking back to when I was young
Back to the day when I was falling in love

[Pre-Chorus: Halsey]
He used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don’t set
And every day you know where we ride
Through the backstreets in a blue Corvette
And baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
We can go anywhere we want
Drive down to the coast, jump in the sea
Just take my hand and come with me
Singing

[Chorus: Halsey & Khalid]
We can do anything if we put our minds to it
Take your whole life then you put a line through it
My love is yours if you’re willing to take it
Give me your heart ’cause I ain’t gonna break it
So come away, starting today
Start a new life, together in a different place
We know that love is how all these ideas came to be
So baby, run away with me

[Bridge: Halsey & Khalid]
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now
Run away, now

[Outro: Halsey & Khalid]
He used to meet me on the Eastside
She used to meet me on the Eastside
He used to meet me on the Eastside
She used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don’t set

In an interview with Zane Lowe on AppleMusic’s Beats 1, the hitmaker opened up about working with his collaborators. He gushed over Halsey’s vocals and revealed that they are working on material for her new LP. “She just has such as a swag that pop artists really lack these days. It’s crazy to me. I’m doing her new record and she’s a homie of mine and we were just in the studio, and it just kind of happened,” he explained. The “Tik Tok” producer also shared some insight into Khalid. “The crazy thing is, you’re in the room with them and he just kind of does this thing where he just like, smiles. But the second he gets in the booth… he’s so shy and very sweet and soft-spoken, and then he gets in the booth, and he just turns into this absolute animal.”
