happy Father\'s Day

Interscope RecordsElla Mai’s new single, “Boo’d Up,” may be a smash hit, but the British singer-songwriter had a long journey to fame, even after she auditioned for the 11th season of the U.K. version The X Factor, as a part of a girl group called Arize.
The group didn’t get very far, which is why, Ella says, she had to take her career into her own hands.
She tells ABC Radio, “I literally had an epiphany one day. I said to myself, ‘I go to school for music. My family know I can sing. My friends know I can sing.’ But I was like, ‘What am I actually doing to put myself out there?'”

London-based artist Ella Mai closed out the night, in a white baggy t-shirt and red and black track pants singing, “Boo’d Up” with her acoustic band. Encouraging the crowd to move closer and closer to the stage for a warmer, more personal setting, she sang a few songs from her Ready EP, “Breakfast in Bed,” “Makes Me Wonder,” and “Anymore.” The 23-year-old singer closed out the night with her latest single, “Naked,” with the crowd singing word for word.

Rewind to 2015, and London born Ella Mai showed early promise with a mere four track EP on Soundcloud and a handful of DIY covers on Instagram. Fast forward to present day, and Mai’s accomplishments are a reminder to persevere – she’s since been discovered by DJ Mustard, has a trilogy of EPs on his label 10 Summers, and just wrapped Kehlani’s SweetSexySavage tour as a supporting artist.

The half-Jamaican, half-Irish songstress was born to create change with her voice. Whether she is lamenting about the demise of a relationship or professing her intense feelings about a newfound love, Ella Mai easily shares stories to which we all can relate. After signing to DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers label in 2016, Ella Mai hit the road opening for Kehlani’s Sweet Sexy Savage International Tour at the beginning of 2017 and finished the year with a sold-out tour of her own. With a highly-praised EP Trilogy under her belt, Ella is now gearing up to release her debut album.

[Verse 1]
Feelings, so deep in my feelings
No, this ain’t really like me
Can’t control my anxiety
Feeling, like I’m touching the ceiling
When I’m with you I can’t breathe
Boy you do something to me

[Pre-Chorus]
Ooh, now I’ll never get over you until I find something new
That get me high like you do, yeah yeah
Ooh, now I’ll never get over you until I find something new
That get me high like you do

[Chorus]
Listen my to heart go ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum, boo’d up
Hear my heart go ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum it just won’t stop, it go
Ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum, boo’d up
Hear my heart go ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum, it just won’t stop, it go

[Verse 2]
How many ways can I say that I need you baby, it’s true
I think I might die without you
Feeling all over my body
You know how I like it
Ain’t gotta tell you what to do, yeah yeah

[Pre-Chorus]
Ooh, now I’ll never get over you until I find something new
That get me high like you do
Ooh, now I’ll never get over you until I find something new
That get me high like you do

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
Head over heels in love
Right in front of you, ain’t gotta look no more baby (hah)
I wanna build this love
And everything you want, you ain’t gotta ask for
You got me boo’d up, boo’d up
Boo’d up, boo’d up
Told you from the jump I’m the one to choose
Ya got me boo’d up, boo’d up
Boo’d up, boo’d up
Grab me by the waist baby, pull me closer

[Pre-Chorus]
Ooh, now I’ll never get over you until I find something new
That get me high like you do
Ooh, now I’ll never get over you until I find something new
That get me high like you do

[Chorus]
Listen my to heart go ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum, boo’d up
Hear my heart go ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum it just won’t stop, it go
Ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum, boo’d up
Hear my heart go ba-dum, boo’d up
Biddy-da-dum, it just won’t stop, it go

[Outro]
This is such a crazy feeling, like
I don’t want to get too attached, but
I feel like I already am
My mind’s telling me one thing, but
I guess I should listen to my heart
Right?
